The Urban Notebook

This workshop will be a self-paced online class, where we will make a thick, sturdy, street-art-inspired journal out of recycled packaging and fill it with urban-y, doodley goodness! Workshop starts Oct. 22 and all materials will be posted at that time, up and ready for you to play at whatever pace you wish! Blog will be indefinitely accessible. Registration ongoing!!!!

Lessons include:

Lesson in street lettering (bubble-based)• Prepping cardboard boxes

• How to decorate covers

• Journal binding

• How to build urban-looking pages with layers

• Street collage

• Urban lettering

The Urban Notebook: $40

A self-paced online class starting Oct. 22 with materials all posted all at once and indefinite blog access! We will be making a street art-inspired journal out of two canvas panels (any size you wish; I'm using 6 in. x 12 in.), pasta and cereal boxes (think any boxes really in your cupboards except corrugated cardboard), and waxed linen thread or whatever you have on hand.  

Supply list:

(Please don't buy anything special for this. Try to use whatever you have on hand.)

• Cereal or pasta boxes for pages (You can also use cardboard mailers and heavier scraps of paper; use what you have; no corrugated cardboard)

• 2 flat canvas panels any size (I'm using 6 X 12)

• waxed linen thread, binding needle, awl

• duct tape

• Tulip Paint Cannon (can find at Michaels/I get mine with 40% off coupon)

• Sprays like Dylusions, Radiant Rains, or Adirondack

• Your favorite acrylics (I use cheapie craft paints)

• Stencils

• Ink (I use Liquitex and/or Bombay; whatever you have)

• 2-3 Copic markers

• black Microns or Pitt pens

• Sharpies (I use the water-based poster paint pens and the Chisel tip and Magnum tip markers)

• Paint brushes (cheapies are best)

• sandpaper (whatever grit you have)

• gesso (white and black)

• anti-bacterial wipes

• paper towels

• gel medium

• molding paste (you don't HAVE to have it)

• self-adhesive craft foam (I get it at Michaels)

• clear plastic from packaging (like used for clear boxes; just recycle some)

What is your policy on taking your class and then teaching it to others?

I would ask you to please not do that. I work hard to write my workshops and make them original. This is how I make my living and I ask that you respect that. Thank you.

 

Can I buy the workshop and share the password to the private blog or the contents of the class with others?

I ask that you please not do that either. Again, I work hard to make a living in this manner. Sharing the password and other class info with anyone who doesn’t register for it is pretty much stealing. You can post your results on your blog if you’d like, but please don’t go beyond that. I hope you understand.
